Bonnett's History

homepg1.JPG (28771 bytes)

Bonnetts Saddlery is Australia's oldest and the world's fourth oldest saddlery.

In 1843, just 7 years after the settlement of South Australia, Edward Albert Bonnett opened his saddlery business in Adelaide.

Successive generations of the Bonnett
family have continued to build the business and today the company has four locations in and around Adelaide.

Edward Bonnett's Great Granddaughter,
Great Grandson and 3 Great, Great Grandsons are part of the company today. The company is wholly owned and operated by Edward's descendants and is  South Australia's oldest company.

Company Profile and Philosophies

Family and company history shows the business occupying various locations in the Adelaide central business district since 1843 with the locations always being near the sale yards to utilise this "ready made" market for saddlery and harness.

As the horse began being replaced by tractors and cars for work activities and modes of transport, Bonnetts saw the need to broaden their range of saddlery products and incorporate non equestrian ones as well.   This has continued until the present day. Bonnetts aim is to provide "the best products from around the world".

Bonnetts now offers the largest range of quality saddlery products and country clothing in Australia.   Brand names like Ambassador, Kieffer, Anky, Grainge, Savannah, Eurohunter, Accent, Pessoa, Trainers, Ariat, Skye Park, Baxter, Joseph Lyddy, R M Williams, Akubra and Drizabone are stocked and with Bonnetts money back guarantee and price matching policy you are assured of the best possible deal anywhere.   Combine this with Bonnetts ability to manufacture what you need if it can't be bought "off the shelf" and there's just about nothing you can't get at Bonnetts.

In the mid 1980s Bonnetts took up an association with Gillian Rolton who went on to win successive Olympic gold medals in Eventing at Barcelona and Atlanta.   Bonnetts currently sponsor Wendy Schaeffer and Andrew Hoy, both Olympic gold medallists in Eventing at Atlanta.   In addition to these and other high profile performers Bonnetts support many "quiet achievers" in the community such as Riding for the Disabled and local pony and riding clubs.   In 1986 Bonnetts was appointed "Official Supplier of Equestrian Equipment" for the Sixth World Three Day Event Championships.
